Can someone Please explain the concept of Dropshipping?

Hi, we are in the process of launching a new website soon. I’ve been doing some research into affiliate programs that various merchants offer, and the majority of them pay 5% to 10% commission on a sale, which is not a lot. Is the profit potential higher with drop shipping? Can someone explain how the concept works? Has someone used successfully the drop shipping method and is it profitable? If anyone is using or has used reliable drop shippers I would appreciate some references to "honest, fast, reliable" people. Thanks very much for your input!

I worked with a sports memorabilia company and they drop shipped all the time. Drop shipping is when you sell a merchants product on your site and then they ship it out for you. You never have to have any product in house.

they ship it to your house or wherever and they just leave it there without having to sign for it.
